Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has stated his concerns regarding the injury to Michael Essien. According to Goal.com, the Portuguese manager is in a dilemma with respect to filling the void left in his squad now that Essien is out for the majority of the campaign.
With the loan deal for Scott Parker rumoured to have stalled, Villas-Boas is now only left with John obi Mikel to anchor the Chelsea midfield.
The manager also has to worry about injuries to Petr Cech and Brazilian defender Alex. However, the pair are believed to have only minor problems and should be back to training before the start of the new campaign.

Lamps dismisses age concern.
Frank Lampard has become the first Chelsea senior player to give his public backing to new manager Andre Villas-Boas. Ever since his appointment, it was speculated the Portuguese manager would have a problem commanding respect from the senior players in the dressing room (considering he is of the same age as many of them).
However, Lampard believes that will not be an issue as far as he is concerned, according to reports from Sky Sports.
“The fact that Andre is young is irrelevant. His quality is important, however. You saw that for yourselves at Porto and we know his ideals are similar to what we had at Chelsea before,” said the Chelsea star.
Frank also went on to say how the manager has brought about a new freshness and style to the squad that was lacking last season.
Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois underwent a medical in England on Monday. Chelsea released an official statement on the Club Website confirming their interest in the 19-year-old. The club have already agreed a deal with RC Genk for a fee reportedly in the region of £7.8m.
Speaking on the issue the new manager Andre Villas-Boas said: “At this moment he is having a medical but has not yet agreed personal terms.” With the deal yet to be finalised it is unlikely that Courtois will be joining his new team-mates in Asia and could possibly be loaned out once the deal is completed.
Courtois has the recognition of winning the Belgian Goalkeeper of the Year and RC Genk Player of the Year awards last season and made his debut in 2009 at the age of 16. He has also been a member of his national team’s squad for the recent European Championship qualifier against Turkey.
