Diego Forlan dismisses transfer talk

Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan has poured cold water on speculation linking him with a move way from Atletico Madrid.

Last year’s FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner failed to emulate his heroics in South Africa for his club, struggling for both form and fitness and leading to question marks surrounding his future.

He has been heavily linked with a return to England, in particular Tottenham Hotspur. Nevertheless the 32-year-old stipulates his intention to see out the final two years of his contract at the Estadio Vicente Calderon:“There are rumours that the club are looking to ship me out, but I’m relaxed. I have two years left on my contract and I aim to fulfil that.”

Forlan only netted 10 times for his club last season in all competitions. A stark contrast to the 28 he bagged the previous year in which he clinched a Europa League winners’ medal. The former Villarreal man is currently on international duty at the Copa America with Uruguay and played in last night’s 1-1 draw with Peru.
