Both players have doubts hanging over their heads. Dos Santos was sent home from Mexico’s Copa America squad with a six-month international suspension in the wake of his role in a breach of discipline. Whilst the Mexican FA refused to comment on specifics, it was thought the Barcelona B man was one of several players caught with prostitutes.
Meanwhile, doubts surround Soriano’s capacity to make the step up to the first team, particularly in light of his age, and failure to do so previously under Guardiola. Whilst for very different reasons – temperament and ability – both players face question marks over their Blaugrana futures.
Both players have been linked with clubs – dos Santos with Zaragoza, Soriano with clubs in Austria, Germany and England – but it is reported that the players’ fates rest in Guardiola’s hands. The Coach will reportedly monitor their performances during the club’s pre-season tour of the US from July 31 to August 6, and make a decision after that.
