Everton announce loan signing of Sporting defender

Everton have announced the signing of Eric Dier on a season long loan from Sporting Lisbon, according to Sky Sports.

The English born defender first joined the Toffees in January and played in the Everton Under-18 team before his return to Portugal at the end of the season. The defender impressed Coach Davie Moyes during his time in Merseyside and the Scotsman has brought the teenager back to Goodison Park.

Dier was born in Cheltenham and moved to Portugal at the age of seven. He joined the Portuguese giants at eight-years-old and was being tracked by Manchester United before he signed a professional contract with the Lisbon club in April 2010.

If Dier proves himself at Everton throughout the campaign there is every chance he will be offered a permanent deal with the Toffees at the end of the season.
