Villarreal’s experienced left-back Joan Capdevila has encouraged reports linking him with a move to champions Barcelona.
The 33-year-old is thought likely to leave the Valencian side this summer despite signing a new contract in January tying him down until 2013. Interest in the World Cup winning No 11 remains high and amid the emergence last season of Jose Manuel Catala at left-back, the club are now looking to cash in on Capdevila.
The player is also keen to maintain regular playing time in preparation for challenging for a spot with Spain’s Euro 2012 squad next summer, and in light of Juan Carlos Garrido’s preference for Catala, is open to now leaving if an offer comes in.
