Liverpool assistant manager Steve Clark has revealed that former Chelsea winger Joe Cole could still have a future with the Anfield side, according to the Independent.
Cole, 29, had been expected to move away from the club after a disappointing first season in Merseyside, added to the high wages in the players’ contract.
However, after impressing in pre-season, Clarke feels there could be a future at Liverpool for the player capped 56 times for England.
“At the end of last season he was not getting in the team because the team was playing well. But he has trained hard and gone away and had a good summer. Joe Cole is a top international player. He has got a big contribution to make to the future.
The option to keep the player remains, but Clarke insists it is up to Cole to convince manager Kenny Dalglish that he deserves to stay: “He knows the position he is in. It has been difficult for him because he has not been involved but, when he gets the chance, it is up to him to take it.”

Blackpool have signed Liverpool’s Argentinian winger Gerardo Bruna, according to the club’s official website.
Bruna, 20, joined the Reds in 2007, but has failed to work his way into the Liverpool first team, and the player now makes a permanant move to Ian Holloway’s Blackpool.
Jones set for loan exit.
With the arrival of Brazilian goalkeeper Alexander Doni from Roma, Tribalfootball reports that squad goalkeeper Brad Jones could make a loan move to Middlesbrough.
Jones, who joined Liverpool last season for £2.3m from ‘Boro, spent the second half of last season on loan at Derby County, and a return to Middlesbrough seems to be on the cards.
