Liverpool news – Reds Enrique hint, Norway friendly go ahead, Gerrard fitness race

Reds Enrique hint.

Liverpool are keeping an eye on Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique after the Spaniard slammed his club’s transfer policy, the Daily Mail reports.

Enrique took to social networking site Twitter to accuse his employers of a lack of ambition and claimed that he has been offered no improvement on his current salary. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew said in May that the club would make the left back a ‘fantastic’ offer, but Enrique has refuted those claims.

He said: ‘The club is allowing all the major players of the team to go. Seriously, do you think it is the fault of the players? Andy (Carroll), nobby (Kevin Nolan) etc. etc. This club will never again fight to be among the top 6 again with this policy.’

Reds manager Kenny Dalglish is looking to build his squad ahead of the coming season and the 25-year-old Enrique is his target for the left back slot at Anfield. A move to Liverpool could happen shortly for Enrique, as Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will be tremendously unhappy with Enrique’s outburst.

Norway friendly go ahead.

Liverpool will fulfil their friendly against Valarenga in Oslo next Monday, despite the problems the country face at this particular time, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Terrorist attacks have rocked the Scandinavian country and Liverpool are monitoring the situation, but they have had no discussions as to postponing the trip. The Reds hold huge support in Norway and a sell-out crowd of around 25,000 people are expected at the Ullevaal Stadium. An LFC spokesman said: ‘At this stage, there is nothing to indicate the game will not go ahead.’

This statement was emphasised by Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre, who stated: ‘Some of our most passionate fans are Norwegian and we count them as friends as well as supporters. The team is due to play in Norway on August 1st. Ahead of that, we want our fans to know we are thinking of them at this terrible time.’

Gerrard fitness race.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is trying to regain his fitness so that he can start the season opener against Sunderland on August 13th, according to Click Liverpool.

With three weeks to go until the Premier League season begins, doubts had been raised over the fitness of the Liverpool skipper and whether he would be able to make it back in time for the beginning of the season. The 31 year old went under the knife after a groin injury, which ended his season back in March, and his rehabilitation is going steadily at Melwood.

Gerrard is striving to feature in Liverpool’s final pre-season fixture of the summer against Valencia at Anfield one week before the season opener against the Black Cats. Gerrard vowed in June that he would return to action better than ever and Liverpool fans will be hoping they have their talismanic skipper available for duty, as they look to build on last season’s impressive performances under Reds manager Kenny Dalglish.
