Real Madrid have confirmed new signing Nuri Sahin has been ruled out for two to three weeks after suffering a knee injury during pre-season.

In Jose Mourinho’s first session of rigorous training on the club’s tour of North America, the Turkish international bruised his left knee, which was later confirmed to be a Grade I sprained ligament. Basing his play from central midfield and voted the Bundesliga 2011 Player of the Season, Sahin – representing another option to Xabi Alonso’s deeper creativity – missed the season run-in for Die Borussen after picking up an injury on his right knee.

Sahin will now miss the entire pre-season tour that has games scheduled against Los Angles Galaxy, Chivas and Philadelphia Union, plus later friendlies with Hertha Berlin and Leicester City. It also leaves him a doubt for the Supercopa de Espa
