Aston Villa’s Stiliyan Petrov believes the club are making the perfect move by signing Shay Given as they aim to replace Brad Friedel, The Sun report.
New Villa boss Alex McLeish continues to make strides in his attempts to sign Given, and as a £3.5m deal could be close to a conclusion, Petrov believes his club are targeting the right man.
The Bulgarian said: “Brad was a big loss. He played a major part at this club and I was sad to see him go, but Shay is one of the best keepers in the league and it will be a great signing for us.”
He continued: “He’s got European experience and Premier League experience so what else do you need?”
