The 20-year-old is rumoured to have attaracted the interest of David Moyes’ side having struggled to break through under Jose Mourinho duing the 2010-11 campaign. The Premier League side are interested in the young, attacking playmaker who can also play as a second striker, and thought to be preparing an offer of a 12-month loan to provide an opportunity of regular playing time.
However, the Racing Santander youth product has reportedly told the club he is only interested in playing in Spain, even if that was on loan away from Madrid. Roma are another side linked to the player in light of Luis Enrique’s appointment with the Italians, and his admiration of the player.
Canales, who won the Under-17 European Championship with the national team in 2008 is currently in Spain preparing for his participation with the Under-20 side for the World Cup to be held from the end of July this summer. Alongside Pedro Leon, Lassana Diarra and Royston Drenthe, it sees the youngster miss out on Mourinho’s pre-season training camp held during the side’s tour of North America.
