Redknapp confirms Tottenham interest in Adebayor

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed that former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor is a Summer transfer target for the club.

Adebayor, 27, spent the second-half of last season on loan at Real Madrid, where he scored five goals in six La Liga starts and eight substitute appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side, and Redknapp confirmed to Sky Sports that the club are looking into doing a deal with the wantaway front-man:

“The chairman, Daniel Levy, has been speaking about it, I am not sure if it will happen. He is a name that has certainly been mentioned, certainly.

“I spoke to the chairman about loaning the player and if we could work out a deal for him, I would like to bring him to the club.”

Although Madrid are still the Togo international’s preferred option, he recently told the Metro that “Before joining Real Madrid, my first choice was Tottenham”, signalling that he would consider such a switch.

It is thought that any agreement with Manchester City and the player will come down to the amount of wages Tottenham are willing to cover, with City likely to want the whole £175,000 weekly salary off their expenses, but Spurs not willing to match half of that.
