Tottenham Hotspur are the latest side to enter the race to sign FC Basel playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri, talkSPORT reports.
Before Shaqiri’s magnificent performances at the under 21 European Championships, Basel were prepared to accept £5m for the Swiss starlet. A whole host of clubs from across Europe are now interested in the 19 year old midfielder and Basel’s valuation has doubled to around £10m.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has been told he has to sell some players before he can buy anybody and Tottenham playmaker Niko Kranjcar could exit White Hart Lane for Shaqiri to come in to Spurs. Redknapp holds high regard for Shaqiri and was in Denmark to watch the European Championships last month, where he spotted the Basel playmaker.
Redknapp faces competition for Shaqiri from German side Hamburg and fellow Premier League rivals Liverpool and could face problems with the two sides outbidding the money Spurs would offer.

Tottenham are trying to sign Siena youngster Souleymane Coulibaly, but face a race against time to try and secure a passport for Coulibaly’s father, according to the Daily Mirror.
Spurs have set up a £2m move for the 16 year old, who is ready to leave Siena, but Coulibaly must wait until his father is granted an Italian passport. That process could take several weeks and is needed, because Coulibaly’s age means he must come with the family. The Coulibaly family fled to Italy two years ago to avoid unrest in their homeland.
Coulibaly is keen on a move to England for a better quality of life and football and all the terms are agreed, apart from the need for his father’s passport. The Ivorian held the Golden Boot at the under 17 European Championship with nine goals this summer and has attracted interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Dos Santos sparks attention.
Sky Sports reports that Tottenham playmaker Giovani Dos Santos is the target of a move to Udinese, Valencia or Sevilla this summer.
Sevilla want to take the Mexican forward on loan, but Spurs are trying to sell Dos Santos after an unsuccessful spell in London following his 2008 switch from Barcelona. Dos Santos has been on loan to Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing Santander during his time at Spurs and he could now move away from White Hart Lane.
Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido said: ‘Sevilla seek the player on loan with the option to buy, but Tottenham want the transfer to be permanent. We can rule that out for now. Under the conditions Tottenham want, it is ruled out today. If there is a sale, it would have to be on different terms’.
Udinese or Valencia could now sneak in for the 22 year old with permanent bids. Udinese are preparing for the exit of Alexis Sanchez and Valencia are doing the same for a possible move away from the Mestalla for Juan Mata, so Dos Santos fits the bill.
