The Guardian are this morning reporting that Tottenham are to challenge North London rivals Arsenal to the signing of Valencia forward Juan Mata. The Gunners are currently favourites to land the signature of the Spaniard, but are yet to table a bid. On the other hand, Tottenham are reported to have made an offer worth approximately £22m, which meets the release clause in Mata’s contract. Spurs manager Harry Redknapp will be desperate to tie up a deal that will undoubtedly improve his inconsistent strike-force, though Mata may be swayed by the Champions League football that Arsenal can offer.

Agent hints at Zigic interest.
Nikola Zigic’s agent has hinted that the striker is the subject of interest from a host of Premier League clubs including Tottenham. The agent is quoted as saying: “As for Redknapp, he is also heaping praise on Zigic, but he already has Crouch among his ranks” according to fourfourtwo. However, with possible deals lined up for the likes of Vucinic and Mata at White Hart Lane, along with a host of other clubs that Zigic’s agent has mentioned, this move does look unlikely. The 6’7 striker scored 5 goals in 25 appearances for the midlands outfit in his first season in English football, including the opening goal of the Carling Cup final vs Arsenal.
Vucinic to choose Juve.
Spurs target Mirko Vucinic is set to snub contracts from Tottenham and Manchester United in favour of staying in Italy and moving to Juventus, reports The Metro. The Roma forward is likely to secure a four year contract with The Old Lady, as a fee has been agreed between the two clubs thought to be around the £15m mark. Juventus’ interest is thought to have turned to the Montenegrin after negotiations with Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi broke down. This will come as a blow to the managers plans as Redknapp searches desperately for a new striker, he may have to turn his attention elsewhere, with interest in Valencia’s Juan Mata already being reported.
