Tottenham news – Spurs target Afellay, Defoe in Magpies link, Bale feeling fit

Spurs target Afellay.

The Daily Mirror has reported today that Spurs are close to agreeing a deal for Barcelona player Ibrahim Afellay. He was watched by scout Ian Broomfield last night at the Audi Cup where he played the first half.

He has only been at the Camp Nou since January but has struggled for regular first team opportunities. With the possibility of signing Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal it seems that Spurs have stolen a march on other sides who will view the Dutchman as a superb signing.

Defoe in Magpies link.

It is understood that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is to make a move for Spurs striker Jermain Defoe. The Sun has stated today that if he fails to land his top target Mevlut Erdinc he will move for the Tottenham player.

It is no secret that Harry Redknapp is looking to reshape his attacking options and has to sell before he can buy. It is thought that a bid of around £10m would be enough to secure his services.

Bale feeling fit.

Gareth Bale has declared himself fully fit for the start of the season and hopes to recapture his best form. After some dazzling displays he picked up some niggling injuries and faded away at the end of last season.

Speaking to the Daily Star Bale said: “I’ve got back from my ankle injury and don’t feel anything at all. I feel good, the whole team feels good and I think that shows.”

The Welshman has impressed during Spurs tour to South Africa and will be an important part of the squad this season.
