Vela, 22, joined Arsenal in 2005 from Chivas de Guadalajara in a €3m deal, but has subsequently failed to hold down a regular place in Arsene Wenger´s starting line-up, making just 29 league appearances, and has been loaned out to Celta Vigo, Salamanca, Osasuna and West Bromwich Albion during that time.

However, the Txuri-urdin´s director of football Lorrenzo Juarros, better known as ´Loren`, has his sights firmly fixed on the former FIFA Under-17 World Championship winner: “Vela is our main option for the left-hand side,” he said. “He is very versatile and can play on both wings as well as in central midfield. He can also cover other positions, which is why we have not made any other signings.”
Loren added: “We are in contact with the player and his club and just need to sort out the fine details. We are considering several different ways for us to sign him. Arsenal do not want to let him go and would prefer to loan him out for a season before making their minds up whether or not he still has a future in London.”
