Barcelona have sold two players today, with Jeffren Suarez joining Sporting CP, and Oriol Romeu signing for Chelsea.
Attacking winger Jeffren joins Portuguese side Sporting for a fee of €3.75m, with a further €200,000 for add-ons, and a 20% sell-on fee. The Blaugrana have again inserted a buy-back clause – as was the case with Bojan Krkic – and can re-sign Jeffren for €8m in 2012 or €12m in 2013.
The player signs a five-year contract on a €4m annual salary, with a €30m buy-out clause, and promised to bring his new team ‘work, enthusiasm and ambition’. The 23-year-old made his Barcelona debut during the 2008-09 campaign, but subsequently managed only 40 appearances across three seasons, with more than half of those coming from the bench.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have completed a deal for B team defensive midfielder Romeu for a €5m fee, in a deal that was initially agreed a couple of weeks ago. The 19-year-old is currently on international duty with Spain at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
The youngster made his senior debut for the Catalans towards the end of last season, but reportedly did not figure in Pep Guardiola’s plans. However, the team retain a buy-back option for €10m in 2012 or €15m in 2013.
