Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has acknowledged his good pre-season form, saying it is down to confidence that he aims to take into 2011-12.
The 23-year-old Frenchman has netted six goals from six appearances during the club’s pre-season – one during the tour of the US, another three in Europe, followed by two in the Spanish side’s 7-1 mauling of Guangzhou Evergrande at the start of the team’s Chinese tour.
Benzema spoke of the form, and the feeling he takes into the new campaign: “I
“I’m more comfortable with myself and working very hard in training to ensure I perform well – that’s what the Coach wants from me, and is what I’m trying to achieve.”
Benzema has endured a difficult start to his Real Madrid career, struggling to live up to a €35m price tag in 2009-10, before Jose Mourinho’s arrival for 2010-11 saw the youngster initially struggle to break into the starting line-up before Gonzalo Higuain’s long-term injury.
