Carles Puyol ‘on schedule’ for start of Barcelona’s season

Barcelona defender Carles Puyol insists he will be fit in time for the start of the season.

The 33-year-old captain’s run-in to the 2010-11 campaign was intermittent as injury restricted his participation. The player eventually underwent knee surgery on June 1, before a rapid recovery programme with fitness Coach Juanjo Brau saw him return to pre-season training by July 1.

Puyol told Marca though that the club and he are not forcing the recovery too soon, and that he remains on schedule for the start of the season: “Every day I feel better, but this process is slow. The most important thing is that I have no pain. I have really wanted to play, but only when fully recovered and 100%. The deadlines are being met and that is what counts.”

Puyol is currently training with his teammates in the US, with the team scheduled to travel from Washington to Miami for the next leg of their pre-season tour.
