Celta Vigo ace to join Rayo Vallecano subject to contract resolution

Rayo Vallecano are set to sign Roberto Trashorras from Celta Vigo if the player can negotiate his release from the Galicians, with whom he still has two years remaining on a five-year contract. Having told Celta he was not prepared to play in any pre-season friendlies it is now a question of who will pay the final two years of the player´s salary, worth €1m.

Cash-strapped Rayo are in administration and would only be prepared to take the player on a free transfer, while second division Celta need to get the 30-year-old midfielder off their books as he is one of the highest earners at the club, and have asked him to renounce the remainder of his agreement.

Trashorras arrived at Celta three years ago from Las Palmas as part of a project where the club wished to bring back Galician-born players to their homeland, having his best campaign in 2009/10 when he scored nine times in 38 league games and helped the team to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey. Nonetheless, despite being a regular in the starting line-up during his time with Los Celestes, boss Paco Herrera left him out towards the end of last season and his days as No 10 at Bala
