Chelsea and Valencia close to agreement on Juan Mata

Valencia boss Unai Emery and winger Juan Mata held a 15 minute meeting after training on Friday where it is understood the Spanish international specifically asked to be allowed to leave to join Chelsea. Contact between the two clubs has intensified over the past few days and the Spanish World Cup winner´s transfer to Stamford Bridge could be concluded within the next couple of days, with a fee of around €28m having been mentioned.

Mata spoke with Valencia President, Manuel Llorente, at the end of July when the €22m rescission clause in his contract was raised to €60m, although Llorente promised the 23-year-old he would be allowed to leave if an offer of between €25m and €30m was received.
