Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has noticed the similarities between new signing Romelu Lukaku and Dider Drogba, report Sky Sports.
The new boss sees no reason why Lukaku can’t replicate Drogba’s influence and natural ability as soon as he settles down in the country. He also wants the 18-year-old to understand that he will have to bide his time to get his chance with the array of striking talent currently at the club.
Villas-Boas said: “He is tremendously powerful, very strong in the challenges. Despite his size, he has an explosiveness and an ability to react quickly which looks pretty amazing. He just has to break through this competitive level and, for sure, he will get opportunities this year.”
The Belgian striker completed his move to Stamford Bridge on Thursday and has also compared himself to his Ivorian team-mate. “We have similar playing styles, but I am also very fast,” Lukaku told Chelsea’s official website.

Modric deal uncertain.
Luka Modric’s protracted deal to Chelsea is still in the balance according to boss Andre Villas-Boas, Sky Sports report.
It has been no secret that the Croatian midfielder is high on Villas-Boas’ transfer wish-list with two offers in excess of £25m having already been rebuffed by Tottenham.
Spurs have remained adamant that the 25-year-old is not for sale and is a major part of their plans until recently when Harry Redknapp admitted it may be best to offload the want-away player and use the money to strengthen other areas of the team.
“We have approached Tottenham before regarding the player,” AVB said. “I don’t know if it is viable or not and to what extent we can go regarding his price because we are speaking about a high amount and nothing else basically. End of story,” he continued.
There are reports that Chelsea will come back with a £30m bid for Modric over the weekend which may be the catalyst to wrap the deal up.
Cech faces injury lay-off.
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is to face a month lay-off after sustaining a knee injury in training, BBC Sport report.
The Czech ‘keeper is set to miss the next four Premier League games against West Brom, Norwich, Sunderland and Manchester United. “Cech fell awkwardly with his weight on top of him. We expected much worse when we saw the incident,” said Villas-Boas. “It was the end of training, a normal training incident.”
Villas-Boas now has to decide whether to throw Hilario or Ross Turnbull into the spotlight after sending new recruit Thibault Courtois on a season-long loan to Atletico Madrid.
