Kapsars Gorkss pens Reading deal

QPR defender Kaspars Gorkss has joined Championship promotion hopefuls Reading on a three-year deal.

The Latvian defender made 42 appearances last season in the R’s successful promotion campaign but having fallen behind Fitz Hall, Matthew Connolly and new signing Danny Gabbidon in the pecking order has chosen to drop a division and join the Royals.

However the 29-year-old told the club’s official website he hopes that his stay away from the Premier League won’t be a prolonged one: “Obviously my goal is to get back to the Premiership again and hopefully I can help Reading achieve that goal.”

Chairman Sir John Madejski was also pleased with the coup: “He has got an incredible track record and you tell just by talking to him that he is very professional and influential.”
