Previewing the forthcoming 2011-12 Primera Division campaign, we take a look at the sides hailing from Eastern Spain’s Valencian Community and Balearic Islands: Valencia, Villarreal, Levante and Real Mallorca.
It is the end of an era at Mestalla as wing wizards Joaquin Sanchez and Vicente have departed for pastures new. The transfer saga of Juan Mata dominated Valencia’s summer but a much-rumoured deal with Arsenal has thus far failed to materialise. Either way, Los Che will be encouraged by the loan signing of Sergio Canales who seeks the first-team football necessary to capitalise on his far-reaching potential. Perhaps the most interesting signings of the summer though are Dani Parejo (Getafe) and Pablo Piatti (Almeria), both of whom could help engineer a shift from the 4-2-3-1 / 4-4-2 usually employed by Coach Unai Emery to a 4-3-3.
