Uruguay defender Sebastian Coates will arrive in Liverpool today to complete his move from Uruguayan side Nacional, according to The Liverpool Echo.
A fee has been agreed for the highly rated centre back and Coates will now undergo a medical before discussing, and hopefully agreeing, personal terms. The Reds are hoping to obtain a work permit for the transfer and the 20 year old is expected to be able to seal the transfer before the weekend.
Coates was crowned young player of the tournament at last month’s Copa America and attracted interest from a host of top European clubs. The defender said an emotional farewell to Nacional, the club he has spent the last ten years with.
The Uruguayan said: ‘For the fans, I can only give words of gratitude. They have always treated me fantastically and supported me in the hardest times. I will wear the Nacional jersey again, however, and I hope when this happens, I get the same great backing’.

Aquilani set for Milan.
Liverpool and AC Milan have reached an agreement for Alberto Aquilani to join the Italian side on loan for the remainder of the current season, liverpoolfc.tv reports.
The deal sees the 27 year old return to Italy following a loan spell at Juventus last season and the deal also includes the option for the Rossoneri to make the move a permanent one if the player makes 25 appearances for Milan. Director of football Damien Comolli has praised Aquilani’s temperament throughout the negotiations and has wished him well on behalf of the club.
Aquilani said: ‘I am delighted to have arrived here. This is a leap in my career. I have come to Milan to do well. I believe I can play in all positions in midfield. I will do everything possible to earn the trust of the club’.
Reds manager Kenny Dalglish had previously stated that he would be happy to see the Italian international stay at Anfield, but the departure sees one less body leave the already crowded battle for the Reds midfield spots.
Too late for Rodallega.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has told Liverpool that they have left it too late to sign striker Hugo Rodallega, The Daily Mirror reports.
Rodallega has yet to extend his contract with the Latics and Reds boss Kenny Dalglish was looking to raid Wigan at the last minute for the Colombian, but Wigan boss Martinez has slammed the door on any move for Liverpool this summer.
Martinez said: ‘We would not consider anything. You can’t replace players at this stage of the season. If a player is moving for big money, they have to go earlier in the summer. We would not be in a position to replace him now. It is not possible.’
The 26 year old striker could leave Wigan for nothing at the end of the season and that could leave Liverpool to pounce on Rodallega once his contract at the club expires.
