Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni has revealed that former Roma teammate John Arne Riise convinced him to move to Anfield, ESPN reports.
The 31 year old Brazilian joined the Reds on a free transfer in July and whilst he was at Roma with Riise, the two players often spoke about what Anfield was like to play at. Norwegian left back Riise played at Liverpool for seven years and told Doni off the magical European nights on Merseyside. Riise has since made a move to England to join Fulham.
Doni said: ‘I spoke a lot about Liverpool with John (Arne Riise) and he told me what a special club it was. He spoke about the supporters, the way Liverpool play and this is a very big challenge for me. I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to come to the Premier League, especially signing for Liverpool which is a huge club in Europe’.
Reds number one Pepe Reina will keep his place as the main Liverpool shotstopper and Doni has acknowledged his role as a second choice player at Anfield. Doni started the friendly against Hull City last weekend and will be looking to feature in Liverpool’s final pre-season fixture against Valencia this Saturday.

Cole PSG link.
Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole is a target for French side Paris Saint Germain and Cole would accept a move abroad, The Sun reports.
The French giants are chasing the Liverpool midfielder, who faces an uncertain future at Liverpool this season. Reds manager Kenny Dalglish has featured the 29 year old in pre-season, but his future is said to be somewhere else as Dalglish looks to offload him from the Reds this summer.
Big-spending PSG, backed by a Qatari consortium, will be able to afford the £90,000 a week wages he currently earns on Merseyside and the transfer will come on a free. The 29 year old Cole is keen on remaining in the Premier League, but if a deal cannot be agreed for him to stay in England, he will be open to the opportunity of switching abroad.
Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers have both been linked with buying Cole this summer, but the complications arise from the wages Cole earns at Anfield. Spurs will have to offload players before they bring in Cole and QPR will have to attract the 29 year old heavily, as Cole still believes he can play at the very highest level.
Hull eye Ayala.
Championship side Hull City are in conversation with Liverpool over a permanent move for defender Daniel Ayala, Liverpool Echo reports.
Tigers boss Nigel Pearson is keen to bring Ayala back to the KC Stadium after a loan spell last season which saw him make 12 appearances. The two sides have been unable to agree on a valuation of the Spaniard and if a permanent deal cannot be agreed, a loan spell could be another possible option to give Ayala more first team experience.
Pearson said: ‘I never rule anything in or out, but I would say it’s unlikely. Ayala is a target for us and we’ve put a bid in. The clubs are in discussion and we’ll see where it takes us. As always, the criteria of how you add to your squad is governed by finances’.
Ayala joined the Reds from Sevilla as a youth team player back in 2007 and has struggled to gain opportunities in the Liverpool first team so far in his career.
