Pochettino appeals to Espanyol to clarify Osvaldo transfer stance

Espanyol Coach Mauricio Pochettino has appealed to his club to clarify their position over the possible transfer of striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.

Osvaldo has been linked with several clubs this transfer window, most notably Atletico Madrid who are thought to be offering €20m for the 25-year-old who from 22 starts last term scored 13 goals and assisted a further four. Speaking to Marca as Los Periquitos began preparations for the pre-season Catalonia Cup, Pochettino appealed to the club’s management to come to a quick conclusion on the matter.

“For me the problem did not seem too big, but at this stage of the summer I am now starting to worry. For me, he is a difficult player to replace. Sometimes you have to say things clearly, not aggressively, and this is my position internally and publicly.

We could avoid a lot of talk and prepare the team calmly for the new season. It is nice to clarify things at this point. If the player wants to leave then there is a €30m buy-out clause, but La Liga starts in two weeks.”

After the Catalonia Cup, Espanyol meet Sabadell on August 12 and Zaragoza on August 15, before kicking off the new campaign at home to newly-promoted Granada. Pochettino has promised an improvement to the team’s aggression and organisation in defence following last Thursday’s 5-0 friendly defeat to Sevilla.
