Sporting CP initiate talks with Barcelona over Jeffren

Portuguese side Sporting CP have reportedly opened talks with Barcelona over the transfer of winger Jeffren Suarez.

The Spain Under-21 international is understood to be looking for a move elsewhere as it seems clear he will not be in Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans for the coming season.

Despite being linked with Bolton, Sevilla, Valencia and Udinese this summer, it appears Sporting have jumped to the front of the queue as Record and El Mundo Desportivo believe the Portuguese side have already started negotiations with the Catalan giants.

The publications believe talks are very advanced, however it is not known whether Jeffren will move to the Jose Alvalade on loan or permanently with a buy-back option – the latter quickly becoming a popular clause.

Sporting are believed to prefer the loan option as the Lions continue to strengthen their squad as they vow to end the FC Porto-Benfica dominance of the last few years Jeffren, 23, has one year left on his contract at the Camp Nou and has already rejected a move to Udinese this summer, refusing to be a part of the deal that took Alexis Sanchez to Barcelona.
