Benoit Assou-Ekotto has revealed how the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor will aid Spur’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League. Spurs are hoping to finalise a deal in the coming days for the former Arsenal striker.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph Assou-Ekotto said: “I played against him when I was young so I know him well. We saw what he did against us in Madrid last season, so I am sure he will help us.
“If the manager signs him it’s not to finish fifth or sixth. He’s a player from one of the big four and if we get a player from one of those clubs, it’s for Tottenham to finish in the big four.”
It is thought that as soon as Manchester City and Spurs can finalise the salary split the deal will be completed.

Harry: Modric to miss Utd clash.
Harry Redknapp has finally admitted to Sky Sports that ‘Luka Modric’s head is not in the right place’ after being continually linked with a move to Chelsea. Spurs have rejected two bids already during this transfer window but are bracing themselves for another one.
The Croatian midfielder has been left out of the squad for tonight’s trip to Manchester United. Redknapp said: “He’s got a little bit of an injury. There’s a possibility he could have played through it, but at the moment his head is not in the right place.”
Chelsea still in for Luka.
Even though Chelsea should confirm the signing of Juan Mata today Sky Sports sources understand that they remain interested in signing Luka Modric from Spurs. Having had two bids rejected already it is thought the third will be too hard for Spurs to turn down.
Modric has been left out of the squad for the game against Manchester United tonight and has made no secret of his desire to join Chelsea. With just over a week remaining of the transfer window a deal must be struck quickly in order for Spurs to spend the money on a replacement.
