Tottenham news – Diarra talks open, Redknapp: Europa a killer, Blues step-up Modric chase

Diarra talks open.

Spurs are in talks with Real Madrid over the signing of Lassana Diarra. The French midfielder has been continually linked with the North London side for most of the summer and progress is finally being made according to the Mirror.

It has emerged though that Madrid are seeking a clause in the deal to allow them first refusal on Gareth Bale should he leave White Hart Lane. However, the speculation has been rejected by Spurs.

Diarra has made it clear that he wishes to leave the Bernabeu after being left out of their pre-season trip to America.

Redknapp: Europa a killer.

Spurs manager has labelled the Europa League a Premier League killer due to the amount of games played and the travel implications. This season Spurs will play in the Europa on Thursday nights and then play their Premier League games at the weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports Redknapp said: “Thursday and Sunday every week, you’ve got no chance in the Premier with that. It kills you off, it’s a nightmare. You have to go to crazy places, but we’ll give it our best shot and just give it a go.”

Blues step-up Modric chase.

Chelsea are to continue their pursuit of Spurs midfielder Luka Modric and make an improved bid of £30m according to reports in the Mirror.

They have already had bids rejected for £22m and £27m respectively and know they need to increase the bid if they are to sign the Croatian.

It is understood that Daniel Levy’s stance maybe weakening as fears grow over Modric’s desire to leave increases. Earlier in the week the Spurs assistant manager Kevin Bond stated that ‘everyone has a price’ which has encouraged the new bid for the playmaker Chelsea desperately need.
