Nottingham Forest close in on Matt Derbyshire coup

Nottingham Forest are understood to be closing in on the signing of Matt Derbyshire from Olympiakos.

The striker spent last season on loan at relegated Birmingham City but was limited to just four starts in that time and no permanent deal was pursued.

The Greek side put a number of Championship sides on red alert earlier this summer when Derbyshire was left out of their pre-season games and made available for a nominal fee.

Free-spending Leicester and Brighton were amongst the teams to show an interest but it seems as if Steve McLaren’s Forest have won the battle for his signature after missing out on ADO Den Haag winger Wesley Verhoek on Tuesday.
