Barcelona members are set to vote this month on whether to continue with the club’s shirt sponsorship deal with Qatar Foundation.
President Sandro Rosell signed the deal in the second half of last season, with it coming into effect this summer and running until June 30, 2016. Worth approximately €165m over that five-year spell, the contract broke a 111-year tradition at the club of not running paid-for shirt sponsorship.
The meeting to discuss the issue – and others including turning Camp Nou into a non-smoking stadium – will be on September 24, where a vote will be held on whether to continue the agreement or not.
Another element that will be ratified at the meeting is approving the club’s expenditure and revenue streams for this season. The club are set to run a budget of €430m against a projected generated revenue of €461m, one that is set to come through various streams that include that shirt sponsorship deal.
