Barton praises Newcastle fans ahead of QPR debut clash

New QPR signing Joey Barton is looking forward to making his club debut against former employers Newcastle United on Monday night.

The controversial midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements at St James’ Park, and joined Neil Warnock at Loftus Road on a free transfer. But Barton, 29, still only has positives to say on his former fans, telling the official QPR website:

“The fans were brilliant at Newcastle. In my last couple of seasons there, they’ve supported the football club through thick and thin. I’ll always have a relationship with them… What’s gone is gone. I’m never going to say a bad word about the football club or the fans. I wish them every success.”
