Blues end penalty shoot-out jinx to progress in Carling Cup

Chelsea managed to keep their hopes alive in the Carling Cup after a hard earned victory against Fulham. The Blues were a man down shortly after the second half when Alex conceded a penalty, but the opportunity was not taken by Pajtim Kasami who hit the crossbar. After 120 minutes the match remained at 0-0, leading to a penalties.

Andre Villas-Boas revealed his side had practiced for the event of a shoot-out, and this paid off as the Blues won just their second penalty shoot-out in a total of nine attempts to date, 7-6.

Chelsea now have only a couple of days before their next home game against Swansea, where they will be expected to get back to winning ways in the league following last week’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United.
