Chelsea injury blow as Essien recovery put back

Chelsea has been dealt a blow with the news that midfield Maestro Michael Essien may not make his Blues return until April, according to the London Evening Standard.

Essien, 28, is out with a recurrence of a knee cruciate ligament injury picked up in the summer.

“I have been asked when I am coming back and at this point in time it’s down to how the recovery goes and when I am given the all-clear by the medical team. It’s too early to give specific dates,” Essien told reporters.

Although it was initally thought the Ghana international would return by December, sources suggest it could be as late as April.
