Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is planning on making a move for Bolton defender Gary Cahill and usurping Tottenham in the process, according to The Metro.
The England centre-back was close to joining Spurs on transfer deadline day, but a fee could not be agreed. Bolton are refusing to back down from their £17m valuation of the 25 year old and that valuation has stopped Arsenal and Liverpool from buying Cahill this summer.
Chelsea are ready to sign Cahill and pay whatever it takes to bring the defender to Stamford Bridge. Blues centre-back Alex should exit Stamford Bridge in January and Cahill will be the replacement. Villas-Boas will look to pair Cahill with his England international teammate John Terry and chairman Roman Abramovich is prepared to fund any move for the former Aston Villa man.

Neymar urged to choose Madrid.
Santos forward Neymar, who has been linked with Chelsea for a long time, has been urged to move to Madrid and play under former Blues boss Jose Mourinho, Terra reports.
Former Real Madrid forward Ronaldo has told his Brazilian compatriot that he should make the switch to the Bernabeau. The 19 year old is one of world football’s brightest prospects and just like Ronaldo, he has the agonising decision over whether to move to Spain or stay in his homeland.
Ronaldo moved to Barcelona and then Real Madrid some years later and carved out a legacy in Spanish football. The former Brazilian international has urged Neymar to follow him to Spain and move to Madrid.
‘I hope he goes to Real Madrid, where I spent five years. I think it would be better for him. Brazil has become too small for Neymar. This is his moment and he needs to have the ambition to conquer the world, rather than just be the best in Brazil’, Ronaldo added.
McEachran injury blow.
Chelsea youngster Josh McEachran has been ruled out of England’s Under 21 international against Israel with a hamstring problem, chelseafc.com reports.
McEachran did not take part in the squad’s 6-0 home win over Azerbaijan on Thursday and has been sent back to Stamford Bridge for physio treatment. Chelsea have described the decision as a precautionary measure and McEachran could be fit to play some part in the weekend’s fixture against Sunderland.
The 18 year old broke into the Chelsea first team last season and has since gone on to make four under 21 caps for England. McEachran had earlier in the season requested to go out on loan to gain more first team experience, but was told by Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas that he is definitely part of the plans at Stamford Bridge.
No other Chelsea player is in the Under 21 England squad for the Israel game, which has not happened for a number of years.
