Chelsea to turn to Mario Gomez if Torres fails to deliver

Fernando Torres will be given until the January transfer window to prove his worth to manager, Andre Villas-Boas. According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are prepared to make a £34m bid for Bayern Munich and Germany striker Mario Gomez to replace Torres if he continues misfiring for the Blues.

Despite the Spaniard showing an improvement over the last few games, the striker’s confidence is being questioned. The player is also rumoured to be growing increasingly unhappy since becoming the subject of regular criticism from tabloids for his performances.

After Torres’ open goal miss at the weekend in Chelsea‘s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United, the manager conceded that: “I really don’t know what effect it will have on Fernando.”
