Council grant Liverpool extension on stadium decision

An extension on Liverpool’s decision to build a new stadium has been granted by Liverpool City Council, according to the Liverpool Echo.

This follows on from the option given to the club in July to take up a 999-year lease for the Stanley Park. The deadline for this was the end of September, and as expected, more time has been given to to the club to make a choice.

Liverpool’s owners, the Fenway Sports Group, have previously mentioned renovating the Anfield stadium but director Ian Ayre has said it would be a costly and troublesome exercise.

As things stand, planning permission for a new ground in Stanley Park exists but its estimated costs of £300million means the club would have to enter into a lucrative naming rights deal.
