Cristiano Ronaldo angers Racing fans with one-fingered gesture

Only days after saying he gets whistled by fans because he is “rich, good-looking and a fantastic footballer,” Cristiano Ronaldo has again found himself the centre of attention, this time on Real Madrid’s arrival in Santander for Wednesday night’s game against Racing.

The Portuguese international was captured by La Sexta television channel making a one-fingered gesture, allegedly to Racing supporters who had verbally abused him whilst alighting from the team bus. The 26-year-old had been subjected to some vile chants from assembled fans at the airport but afterwards was quick to play down the incident. Ronaldo maintained the gesture had, in fact, been made to teammate Pepe, who at the time appeared with his back to the cameras.

Either way, Racing Santander supporters have not taken kindly to the player’s action, presuming the gesture was aimed at them, and what was to have been an already highly-charged atmosphere in El Sardinero will now be stepped up even further with the Portuguese certain to be targeted even more by the home crowd.

It comes just one week after Dinamo Zagreb followers constantly chanted Lionel Messi’s name to Ronaldo during a Champions League game, in reference to the fact the two players are the focus of much debate about who is the world’s best player.
