Dalglish won’t rush Gerrard back against Brighton

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish says he will not rush Steven Gerrard into a return despite their 4-0 defeat to Tottenham at the weekend.

The Reds captain has been sidelined with a groin injury since March but played in a reserve match last week and got through it with no problems.

Dalglish is yet to decide if the 31-year-old midfielder will play in Wednesday night’s Carling Cup tie away to Gus Poyet’s Brighton.

He said: “Its natural everyone wants to chase for Stevie, especially after you have lost 4-0. But we’ll monitor it, take it how it goes and when both parties agree he’ll play.”
