David Silva: I’d play for Spain more if I hadn’t joined Man City

Man City’s midfield maestro David Silva believes the reason he is only a bit part for Spain is because he plays for Manchester City.

The Spanish midfielder has had a phenomenal start to the 2011/12 season with two goals to his name already, yet his successes on international duty are somewhat subdued by his lack of appearances. Silva has 50 caps for Spain but has struggled since the appointment of Vicente Del Bosque and is sceptical whether he will even earn a place in next summer’s European Championships. The 25-year-old must compete with some of the best midfielders in the world for a position in the team but considers his move be one of the biggest factors. Asked whether he would be any better off playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid he said: “Well, sometimes I think that if I had ended up at one of those clubs it wouldn’t have hindered me as much.”
