Ferdinand set for Man Utd return against Stoke

Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to be able to call upon Rio Ferdinand for Manchester United’s game against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, since the Scotsman believes the experienced defender’s presence in the fixture would help his side achieve a positive result from it, according to ESPN.

Ferdinand has featured in only two of United’s opening seven competitive games of this season due to injury problems, one of which residing in a calf of the England Internationalist’s saw him miss last Sunday’s 3-1 win over Chelsea. However Ferguson appears very keen for Ferdinand to return to marshal United’s backline at Stoke.

“I’m hoping Rio will be okay for Saturday. When you go to Stoke you need a bit of experience. Rio came into the team when we played at Bolton and gave us that experience, so we hope he’ll be fit for Saturday,” said Ferguson, who will understandably be keen for his side to handle the physicality the Potters possess.
