Ibrahim Afellay’s season could over following serious knee injury


Ibrahim Afellay’s season at Barcelona looks to be over after the Dutch international tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in training on Thursday. The club’s medical staff has confirmed the 25-year-old will require surgery, and although there was no time scale put on the midfielder’s absence it will be several months before he is able to return to training.

Afellay has not had much luck with injuries since he joined Barcelona for around €3m from PSV in December, 2010, having missed a good part of the pre-season build-up after suffering a thigh injury playing against Manchester United on Barca’s summer tour to North America.
