Liverpool news – Aldridge: Bellamy a bargain, Comolli: Meireles wanted exit, Agger in good shape

Aldridge: Bellamy a bargain.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge claims Craig Bellamy could prove to be the bargain of the summer transfer window.

The ex-Red striker was impressed by the Welshman’s cameo in Saturday’s defeat at Stoke City and feels he will be an invaluable attacking asset for Kenny Dalglish’s side this season.

Aldridge told LFC TV: “I thought Bellamy was brilliant when he came on at Stoke and in the last 25 minutes he was the best player on the park”.

Aldridge believes Bellamy’s performance will give Kenny Dalglish food for thought by adding: “He was lively, direct, didn’t give the ball away and caused Stoke a lot of problems on the left hand side, with Stewart Downing on the right and Bellamy on the left we looked good and really pinned Stoke back”.

Comolli: Meireles wanted exit.

Director of Football Damien Comolli answers a wide-range of questions from supporters in an interview with LFC TV.

Comolli was asked, Why was Raul Meireles allowed to leave the club to sign for one of our rivals? He responded: “I think Raul said it himself with what I’ve seen recently in the press. Basically, he came to see me and said ‘I want to leave, I want to play for another club’.

“Our intention was not to sell him but we were put in a corner a little bit when he put in a transfer request and said he wanted to go and that he didn’t want to play for Liverpool anymore.”

Agger in good shape.

Liverpool’s centre-back Daniel Agger has told LFC TV that he has not yet reached his peak.

The Dane has started all four of Liverpool’s Barclays Premier League matches so far this campaign having worked tirelessly over the summer to regain full fitness following a knee injury that ruled him out of the tail-end of last term.

Agger feels there is much more to come from him this season. “The fact I got the full pre-season has helped me a lot. I feel a lot stronger, a lot better, but I still have more to come, hopefully.

“I feel I can give some more, have more to offer, so hopefully I can carry on playing games and that will help me. Fitness-wise I am happy right now, but as the season carries on you get more games under your belt and you get stronger, quicker and better.”
