New Arsenal signing Yossi Benayoun has revealed that he came close to a return to Anfield on transfer-deadline-day, before completing his loan move to the London side.
Benayoun, who spent three seasons at Liverpool from 2007-2010, making 92 appearances, admitted to ESPN that he did hold talks with the Reds: “I first heard about the interest from Arsenal eight days before the end of the window and when I knew they wanted me it was an easy choice. I had a few good options from clubs in England and outside. There was a few talks with Liverpool. A few teams but as soon as I heard about Arsenal my mind was made up.”

Gerrard to miss Spurs tie.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will not be fit in time to face Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Gerrard has been out of action for six months with a groin injury picked-up against Manchester Utd in March, yet despite having trained in recent weeks, looks set to make his first-team return against Brighton in the Carling Cup next Wednesday.
Talking to the Daily Mail, Gerrard said: “My groin is as strong as it’s ever been and the stats are there to prove it. Now it’s just a case of getting match fit and then hopefully my form will come back straight away.”
Agger pleased with Reds mentality.
Reds defender Daniel Agger has talked of the change in atmosphere and mentality around Liverpool football club since Kenny Dalglish took over as manager from Roy Hodgson last season.
Agger, 26, told the Daily Post: “I think it’s a bit of everything but obviously the coaching staff are helping. If you look at the squad now, it looks really, really strong with so many good players so I think it is good for us to have the belief to go forward and win games. We definitely have that now and if you compare it to last season, I think we’re miles apart.”
