Man City plan van Persie move if contract talks stall

Manchester City are planning a swoop for Robin van Persie if the latter’s contract talks at Arsenal continue to stall before the January window, the Mail Online report.

The Dutchman – who scored his 100th goal for the north London club against Bolton – is disillusioned under Arsene Wenger since Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy all left the club over the summer.

Gunner’s chief executive, Ivan Gazidas, has a major job on his hands as Theo Walcott and Thomas Vermaelen also have contracts running out in 2013, and Wenger will be desperate not to lose his new captain.

The Frenchman said: “He has grown well into the captain’s role,” said Wenger. “He is a man who speaks his mind and is doing the job well.”
