Pallister backs De Gea to cement Man Utd first team spot

Former Manchester United defender Gary Pallister has voiced his belief that the David De Gea will enjoy a successful career at Old Trafford, on the condition that the young Spanish goal-keeper strengthens his wiry frame so as to be able to overcome the physical challenges associated with the Premier League, the Daily Mail reports.

So far this season De Gea’s somewhat un-assured performances have done little to indicate United were justified in paying Atletico Madrid £18m for his services but Pallister is in little doubt that the U-21 Spanish Internationalist will prove his worth over time, through steady improvement of his physical condition.

“He looks a very slight lad, he may have to bulk up a little bit. But I think there is belief in the club he will stand in good stead and I think he believes in himself. I think he will be a success,” Pallister said of De Gea, who Sir Alex Ferguson is set to reinstate in goal for Sunday’s game against Chelsea, after fielding Anders Lindegaard in United’s midweek 1-1 draw with Benfica.
