Real Betis boss Pepe Mel could not hide his delight after Sunday’s 1-0 win over Real Mallorca lifted his team to third place in the table, behind Real Madrid and Valencia, and insisted he would stay true to the style of football that earned the Andalusians promotion from La Segunda last season.
“I think we are a young team in terms of age and games played in the top flight but we are not afraid of anybody.” said Mel. “We want to remain loyal to our way of playing and will still play the same, even though there will be games when we don’t win. The only way we understand football is with players interchanging in different areas. We have players that can move and pass the ball well, although sometimes we leave ourselves a little exposed. We take risks. Some days we’ll win and others we’ll lose,” he added.
