Real Sociedad – Athletic Bilbao: Improving Leones travel to Anoeta for derby clash

La Liga Week 7
Sunday October 2, 2011 (11.00 UK)

Anoeta, Donostia-San Sebastian

La Liga strugglers Athletic Bilbao take on an assured Real Sociedad side in the first Basque derby of the season. Marcelo Bielsa’s team are currently second bottom with only two points from their first five games.

Real Sociedad forwards Antoine Griezmann and Imanol Agirrexte are both feeling very confident about the upcoming derby, the Frenchman boldly predicting a 3-0 win, in which he will score all three, and Agirrexte has spoke of his desire to continue scoring in the coming games. Coach Philippe Montanier has attempted to quell any over confidence however by insisting that it will be a tough game that his side need to be prepared for.

After a number of stuttering Liga performances, Athletic Bilbao looked like a new side in their impressive home win over PSG in the Europa League on Thursday. Coach Bielsa spoke of the morale boost the win gave his team, and will seek a win that could lift his side out of the relegation zone. Iker Muniain should feature despite picking up a nasty cut on his calf against PSG.

Real Sociedad (4-2-3-1): Bravo; C Martinez, Demidov, L Martinez, Bella; Mariga, Illarramendi; Prieto, Zurutuza, Greizmann; Agirrexte
League form: Last five home W-W-D-D-W

Athletic Bilbao (4-2-3-1): Iraizoz; Iraola, Jose, Amorebieta, Marcos; Iturraspe, J Martinez; Susaeta, Ander, Muniain; Llorente
League form: Last five away L-L-D-L-L

Did you know… This is the 127th La Liga Basque derby. Athletic Bilbao have won 53, Real Sociedad have won 41.
