Spurs out of Carling Cup after penalty drama

Tottenham crashed out of the Carling Cup last night after losing 7-6 on penalties to Stoke City after neither side could be separated during normal time. Reserve player Massimo Luongo was the unfortunate villain for Spurs who saw his penalty saved by Thomas Sorensen.

Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermaine Pennant had both missed penalties during the regulation five which meant it ended in sudden death. Speaking to Sky Sports about Luongo’s penalty miss Redknapp said: “He is okay, of course. If Pavlyuchenko had scored, he wouldn’t have had to take one, would he? It would have been all over but that’s how it goes.”
