Valencia – Atletico Madrid: Top four contenders battle it out after contrasting starts

La Liga Week 3
Saturday September 10, 2011 (21.00 UK)

Estadio Mestalla, Valencia

It could not have been a more contrasting start to the season for Valencia and Atletico Madrid. Whilst Atletico could only grind out a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to a well-organised Osasuna side, a Juan Mata-less Los Che came from 3-1 down to beat Hector Cuper’s Racing Santander 4-3 thanks to a Roberto Soldado hat-trick, in what was an early contender for game of the season.

Valencia have only lost one of their last five home games and that was 6-3 reverse against the might of Real Madrid. Similarly, Atletico have only lost once in their last five away games, so Saturday’s contest promises to be a close game with both teams hoping to get a good start in the push for Champions League places this season.

Valencia (4-2-3-1): Guaita; Bruno, Rami, Ricardo Costa, Jordi Alba; Mehmet Topal, Banega; Pablo Hernandez, Piatti, Bernat; Soldado
